Princesses

I'm not going to bore you with my everlasting love for Prince, because everybody loves him anyway. But I still love him more than anyone. So, Prince has always been surrounded with girls. The pattern seems to be as follows: He would pick a gorgeous girl with the coolest origins (say something like Scottish, Guatemalan, Iranian and Malian) and long hair who can sing, dance, play drums or guitar and act (the latest refers to Carmen Electra). Finds them a sexy, cheesy, greek stage name and dress them in underwear. Follow from this: Apollonia, Vanity, Diamond, Pearl, Sheila E...

In 1981, Prince decided to create a girl band, "Hookers", later changed to "Vanity 6" (the explanation of '6' is because they were 3 women x 2 breasts each). The group was composed of Susan Moonsie, Brenda Bennett and Denise Matthews aka Vanity. Prince wanted to name her Vagina, and I still can't figure out why she'd dismiss it.

"Nasty Girls" is a tune. Later, Vanity was replaced by Apollonia, who played in the Purple Rain movie. The band was rebaptised Apollonia 6 and sang 'Sex Shooter".

that's Apollonia

A casual evening at your local bar with Apollonia 6

Ok, not that many hits, but they were really, really cool.
Another inseparable item is Diamond and Pearl, aka Rubia Lamorte and Lori Elle who were not twins but had the best moves in "Get off", "Cream" and "Diamonds and Pearls".

One of his key-character was the oh-so-cool-it-hurts drummer/singer/musical director Sheila E., who worked on Purple Rain, Sign O' The Time and LoveSexy. She also worked with Ringo Starr, Beyonce, Phil Collins, Cindy Lauper... Click here to watch her hit "The Glamorous Life".

At some point he got married to Mayte Garcia, for who he wrote 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World"...
I sometimes do that with my boyfriend too

Last but not least, after all these over sexy girls, Prince's "secret weapon" as he called her, is the one and only Rosie Gaines. Oh, Diamonds and Pearls, oh, Nothing compares 2 U...

This is a look meaning " I would die 4 U"

Nail Young

Georgia Rose Fairman is a 23 years old PYT who shares her time bartending in an East London pub - She's really good at dancing on the bar - and painting nails. But to another level.
She is so good that Vogue UK and Vice did a piece about her for her war leaders and fashion designers sets. But Blushed had spotted her waayyy before them.

Churchill, Napoléon, Hitler, Mao, Julius Caesar

Alber Elbaz, Giorgio Armani, Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace

Here's a little interview she gave us:

How did you start painting nails?
I started doing my own nails after every time I went to the salon I came home very disappointed with the quality of nail art. I also couldn't afford it anymore. I didn't have any nail art brushes so just used the very edge of a regular varnish brush. Took HOURS.

How does it work (what type of brush, nail varnish, how long does it take...)?
A nail art brush is a very thin, very long brush. They are usually used for those flicky flower type patterns (not a huge fan of those). I use them to paint beards and hair. For the more fiddly bits like the outline of the eyes and nose, etc... I use a nail art pen.
Once I have the design all figured out it doesn't take that long to do a portrait.

What are your inspirations?
For nail portraits it's anyone with an unusual and recognisable face. For standard nail art I just try and think of things that most people would want to have painted on their nails, or wouldn't think they could have painted their nails. Landscapes are my favourite to paint, getting to paint tiny sheep, trees, houses... anything. It's fun!

What is the most recurrent design people ask for?
Most people ask for leopard print (VERY boring) and it gives me hand cramp.

Who would you like to make a set for and what would it be?
Flojo.
Flojo aka Florence Griffith-Joyner was an American track and field athlete who had the most amazing nails, outfits and questionable haircuts.

Or Lady Gaga... ones of her own face. But that might look quite similar to the Donatella Versace one.

What is your favourite nail varnish?
The new Rimmel Pro... the brush is amazing for fast painting.
Essie and Mavala for colours... great nudes.

Merci Georgia.

Georgia is going to study effect make up in september. She is definitely one to keep your eyes on.

If you want to get in touch, say for a set of Michael Jackson faces throughout the decades (hint, hint) email her and she'll see what she can do for you!

Aggy & Fiona

Have you heard of naag? Agyness Deyn and Fiona Byrne talking fashion, beauty, places and culture with this relatively new online magazine. The art direction is pretty cool and it might help those in need of inspiration. Here is a story, shot by Aggy herself to get you motivated and acquainted with the naag style...

Provoking

Here the AW10 campaign from Italian fashion house Valentino. Tati Cotlar, Monica Jagaciak and Freja Beha Erichsen, shot by David Sims, naked and not. Apparently the idea behind it was to present a more provocative and modern Valentino, to attract a younger audience. I love the selection of girls and I do appreciate the effort, but in times of Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs this is not super shocking to me and doesn't even make me blush.
