L'homme qui aimait les femmes

In the 1977 film by François Truffaut, 41 year old engineer Bertrand Morane (actor Charles Denner) is obsessed with women, and their legs. They are his inspiration, his raison d'être, and his cause of death. Morane recounts the numerous affairs that punctuated his life in an autobiography.
The most famous quote of the film is "Women's legs are like compass points, circling the globe and providing its balance and harmony".
This beautiful and tragic film is also a perfect excuse to admire the epitome of chic in the 70's.

Elle & Lui

In 1963, press moguls Daniel Filipacchi and Franck Ténot created a magazine "de charme à la française" called Lui.

Topics included cinema, culture, politics, cars, wine, gastronomy and - drum roll - naked chicks.

At the beginning, the likes of Boris Vian, François Truffaut, and movie producer René Chateau would participate in the making. The covers were striking by their humour, colours and kinkiness. Lui was granted to feature Brigitte Bardot, Jane Fonda, Jane Birkin, Ursula Andress on its cover... before falling for B movies starlets and porn actresses.
The Golden years of Lui ranged from 63 to 87, and you can tell by the creativity of the covers.

American Apparel anyone?

Sadly, whilst the price of the magazine increased, the creativity collapsed dramatically in the late 80's. Humour and small breast were replaced by not-so-sublte sex references and silicone.

I guess this one is the exception that proves the rule!

I strongly suggest that someone comes up with a new magazine de charme à la française, with interesting articles, beautiful girls and lots and lots of humour. Who's in?!

El Guincho- Bombay

Im so sorry for posting another video. But actually Im not, as this one is truly amazing and I haven't seen such a great music video in a long time. Additionally it is an awesome song, so I thought its definitely worth to share! Its beautifully shot and carries a very fashionable and cinematic spirit of the 70ies, lets just say Fellini meets V Magazine. El Guincho- Bombay, directed by Nicolas Mendez.

I LOVE USA

From designing to photography, to moving images this man can obviously do it all. I'm talking about the talented Mr. Hedi Slimane, who recently created a short movie for the online store, THE CORNER. The film features two Californian teenagers as the protagonists; played by a cello-playing wolf and a quintessential American cheerleader. The short is entitled I LOVE USA, and quite frankly, I do too. If you feel the same way, click here to watch the video shot in typical black and white.
