I wonder what happened in the 80's that made video directors think "Hey, what we don't have 5 hot chicks pretending to be playing music without any sense of rhythm?". That is at least what British photographer and director Terence Donovan thought in 86, and I could never thank him enough for it.
I personally would be gutted to be the drummer.
In 88, über-cool rapper Tone Loc (wait, did I really say über? sorry) responds with his "Wild thing" video:
So, slick your hair back, don't be shy with lipstick and smoky eyes, grab a portable turntable, a guitar and a keyboard.... and more important do the wild thing!
